Our area this week had over 5 inches of rain in one day and with that came torents of water along and into the Navasota River Complex.  Being situated on the Navasota River along with Gibbons Creek, Rocky Creek, Sand Creek, and Heifer Creek meant that we saw the river get out of its banks as well as the creeks mentioned earlier.  You could actually hear the water rushing over County Road 190 from the upstream release from Gibbons Creek Reservoir.   Once it started to recede we got word from one of our guides that they were going to run some lines in the river to see what they could catch.

This is the result from this weekend!  If you are interested and want to try this type of adventure.  Give Moody Ranch Outfitters a call and ask about our Spring Gator Hunts where you can hunt for Gators, Gator Gar, Run lines for Catfish, and Hog Hunt over the course of two full days!

HUNTING REPORT 11/28/16

JD’s Hunting Report from Monday, November 28, 2016

We had some great duck hunts in the past few weeks with only a few tough hunts.  Ducks are back and they are looking good.  This week is the Duck Split for us so we are not hunting Ducks but we are hunting Bucks!  We still have several doe tags remaining and a few buck tags.  Even with a good crop of acorns we are still seeing deer coming up to the feeders.  Hogs are here and are plentiful.  We are anticipating some heavy rain this week along with several strong fronts blowing through making it the perfect hog hunting weather!  Call the office for details and availability.

Hunting Report 9/17/16

JD’s Hunting Report from Saturday, September 17, 2016

Doves are starting to make their way back to the ranch.  The numbers are still low but if the northern’s will still keep blowing in we may see enough to start calling people on the waitlist.  Quail guides are here this weekend working on our quail habitat.  They are busy shredding grids and getting ready for a new season of quail hunting!  Repairs have been ongoing since the first of the month on duck levees and projects.  We have a good amount of water from earlier rains and hope to finish up repairs by the end of the month so that projects will hold water to their capacity this season.  Last weekend we had limits on opening weekend of Teal and one banded bird!  Still have openings for Sunday and next weekend!

Doves are slim still.  We are waiting on a the northern to push through this weekend that hopefully will bring us new birds from the north.  Teal are looking good.  Water and food sources are abundant making the start of Teal Season look great.  We are working hard to get all of the habitats for the different divisions ready for hunts this season.  We will be planting food plots soon along with feeders going back online bringing the deer and hogs back in from the bottoms.  We are seeing good deer for this season and we anticipate good numbers for hunts.  Next week we begin to work on the quail habitats getting ready for opening day October 15th.

Hunting Report 9/2/16

JD’s Hunting Report from Friday, September 2, 2016

Dove Hunting was very slow yesterday and conditions are still unfavorable at this time.  Forecasters are calling for a mild north front that blew in yesterday and parts of today but it has not brought additional birds as of yet.  Local reports from our area and throughout the North Zone are seeing the same picture of thin numbers of bird.   We are anticipating that conditions will improve over time in the coming weeks.  If you have a Dove Hunt scheduled please give us a call to discuss options for your hunt.

Hunting Report 9/1/16

JD’s Hunting Report from Thursday, September 1, 2016

Clients are out now in the field.  Scouts from yesterday evening showed that we are still lacking good numbers of birds due to recent rains and high winds.  Dove Hunting will most likely be slow due to those factors.   Looking to see what the northern (that is blowing in later today )will bring us.  If you have a dove hunt already booked please call our office for latest updates.

Teal are starting to come in and we have water.  Call for more info on Teal Hunts!  Teal Season is September 10 – 25 with a bag limit of six.

We are looking forward to Deer Season.  Recently purchase 5 new deer blinds to replace aging older ones and we are beginning work on food plots next week.

Now that it's beginning to dry up we are currently working on waterfowl project repairs again and hope to have everything completed and ready to go in time before the fall rains begin.

Hunting Report 8/30/16

JD’s Hunting Report from Tuesday, August 30, 2016

Since August 13, it has rained over 17 inches here on the ranch bringing us lush green grass and wet wet fields.  With the rain has come wind and in the last few days the wind has really affected our dove population in a negative way.  Currently we are not seeing the numbers we were seeing just a few weeks ago and the weather appears that it will be raining more this week.  Dove Hunting will most likely be slow due to these factors for the opening of Dove Season.  We will keep this website update every other day or you can call after 11am to our office to hear the latest report.  If you have an upcoming hunt please call or text our office for more details and remember to arrive at the lodge an hour before shooting time!  For more information please call our booking office at 936-825-2119 or text to 936-755-4455!

Teal are beginning to find their way to the ranch and with the rain we’ve had we have water holding birds.  Teal Hunts are now available for $225 per person and come with a Breakfast afterwards.  Full waders are required for Teal Hunts and you must arrive no later than 5:30 am on the morning of your Teal Hunt.
For more information please call our booking office at 936-825-2119 or text to 936-755-4455!
